Nail Fungus Medications

Fortunately, nail fungus medications are something you can easily find today. But in other times, the only viable treatment for nail fungus was surgical removal, a rather tricky procedure. Nail fungus medications are recommended by doctors after a proper diagnosis, and comes in two types: oral and topical. These medications are part of long treatments because nail fungus is not something you can get rid of overnight.

Oral Treatment

Oral nail fungus medications are the best option in terms of effectiveness. It works as an internal process. Intake of the dose is mostly daily, depending on what the doctor recommends. Oral nail fungus medications include Itraconazole (Sopranox), Fluconazole (Diflucan), Terminafine (Lamisil. These medications are taken between 3 months but it takes several months to a year to fully heal the nail for the fungus and prevent it from reappearing. Other oral medicines like Griseofulvin and Nizoral can take up to 18 months for the full treatment.

These type of nail fungus medications help a new nail grow. These new nail is free of any fungal agent in it. Our nails act as a powerful barrier to nail fungus but once the fungus is in, the barrier has the some power but against us.

Of all these medications, doctors mostly recommend Fluconazole. A medicine developed as a result of AIDS research.

Topical Treatment

Topical nail fungus medications are recommended as a complimentary aid to oral treatment. They can help when directed appropriately. These creams are applied directly on the nail. By itself they have little power and is very hard your nail will be fully healed with topical creams.

Topical creams use special chemicals and ingredients that help pass through the nail and reach the fungus.

Remember that this information is just for you to know the available nail fungus medications. You must not take any medicine without consulting with your physician first. Many of these medications have side effects, such as nausea, diarrhea, rashes and liver enzyme abnormalities. So please, be careful.

Yoga is a Safe Solution to Weight Control

One more study tells the world, that Yoga can help with weight control and weight loss. The latest study was held by the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle, Washington.

The study involved 15,500 healthy, middle-aged, men and women. This is a group that typically has difficulty with weight loss, since the number of calories needed declines, and the energy levels needed to burn calories, is not what it used to be.

Unfortunately, this is a fact that I have become painfully aware of during the past few years, and cutting back on food was my unwanted last option. Although, I cross train almost daily, it took me one year to lose 16 pounds of extra weight.

Back to the study: Yoga practice was defined as practicing at least 30 minutes once a week for four or more years. Comparatively speaking, this is truly ?bare minimum,? and many Yoga teachers used to say that this amount of Yoga will do nothing.

How times change; Yoga has been keeping people fit for approximately 5,000 years, and its many health benefits are still a mystery worthy of more studies.

Alan R. Kristal, Dr.P.H., the study’s lead author at Hutchinson Center’s Public Health Sciences Division said, “Men and women who were of normal weight at age 45, and who regularly practiced Yoga, gained about three fewer pounds during that 10-year period than those who didn’t practice Yoga.”

Until all the studies are in, it would be safe to say that adding Yoga practice to your weekly routine, and eating wisely, will contribute to weight control or weight loss.

When seeking a Yoga teacher, find one who is compassionate, yet will encourage you to practice more frequently. The results you will gain from regular practice, of three to four Yoga classes per week, will be extraordinary, especially, if you practice Yoga for years.

Yoga is very low impact - in comparison to many aerobic exercise routines, and can be practiced for longevity. Your knees, spine, hips, and shoulders, will thank you for the condition Yoga will keep them in. Many of today?s ?standard? forms of exercise do not have the same ?bragging rights,? as Yoga.

With respect to eating, take the time to identify hunger and cravings. You will notice that they are not the same thing. Being a chocolate lover, it is much better to eat a piece of chocolate, now and then, than to buy a dozen chocolate donuts. This is not to justify, or surrender, to chocolate, but to eat it in moderation, and not every day.

Based upon what I have said so far, it is all about identification, control, and moderation. We have to stop ?mindless eating? habits.

Recently, researchers found that women who received a 1200 mg. calcium supplement, on a daily basis, reduced their number of premenstrual food cravings by 54%.

On another note: When you have anxiety, your body produces more of the hormone cortisol, which may increase the volume of carbohydrates you eat. Carbohydrates temporarily increase our levels of serotonin, making us feel relaxed for the short term.

Learn the art of substituting foods for more nutritionally dense variations. I cover this, in detail, in my eBook, ?14 Days to Change Your Life,? which will be released in August 2005.

Being in the best shape you can be is also connected to positive thinking. Therefore, use self-improvement sources to keep you on the right track toward optimum health.

This is Not Your Grandma’s Rocking Chair

Senior Yoga / Chair Yoga

Is it possible that grandparents are working out more than any other members of the family? Absolutely - I see energetic Chair Yoga classes with as many as 50 people in a single class. Lately, I have been training local Yoga teachers to keep up with this popular demand.

There are Yoga instructors who teach exclusively at senior centers, assisted living complexes, adult day care centers, and nursing homes. There are more Yoga teaching opportunities, to work with seniors, than there are Yoga teachers to fill the need.

Seniors are enthusiastic, fun to work with, appreciative, courteous, and the work is rewarding, in more ways than one. I have seen stroke victims make fantastic recoveries within an enthusiastic crowd of peers. Even in the summer, they faithfully continue to practice Chair Yoga.

Senior Yoga students have more ailments than any other age group, and they do less complaining than their grandchildren. On top of the fact that they have great social skills, seniors often refer their less fit, and younger, family members to my wellness center.

Senior classes are usually held in the morning or early afternoon, in just about every community. If you are interested in learning, contact your local senior center for information.

If you are a Yoga teacher, you should be ?knocking on doors? at your local senior center. The sky is the limit, and this field is truly in need of innovative, compassionate teachers, with knowledge of body mechanics.

Jnana Yoga & Bug-Free Beliefs

In Hinduism there are said to be several paths that lead to the cessation of human suffering. These are known as the four yogas: karma yoga (action, work, service), bhakti yoga (love, devotion, worship), raja yoga (meditation, mental control, ?psychic? exercise), and jnana yoga (knowledge, philosophy, enquiry). No one yoga is better or worse than any other, but individuals will tend to find themselves drawn to one yoga more than the others.

Jnana Yoga

If you?ve been following this blog regularly and digesting some of my lengthier posts, then it should be fairly obvious that among these four, my personal preference is jnana yoga, which is the path of attempting to understand reality through the process of enquiry, i.e. through the mind. In practice, however, I spend time working on all four of these yogas. I express karma yoga through the act of writing and striving to help others grow. Bhakti yoga (love) is an internal, less public path for me. And I?ve done a variety of meditations in the practice of raja yoga. But jnana yoga remains the most compelling for me. I seem to have an insatiable curiosity to understand reality on an intellectual level. It isn?t enough for me to simply feel the truth of something in my heart or to find peace through action. I strive to create a mental model of reality that?s as accurate as possible.

If you share the path of jnana yoga, you?ll likely find the process of enquiry to be fascinating and rewarding. You probably enjoy open-minded, intellectual discussion of high-level subjects. And you may often feel frustrated or isolated to meet few people around you who seem as curious about such things as you are. Formal religion is likely to be too static and ritualistic for you, even downright boring. For you the path of spirituality is the path of knowledge, understanding, and wisdom. Your desire to know is very strong.

But if jnana yoga isn?t your cup of tea, then you may simply find the notion of enquiry into the nature of reality to be pointless, overwhelming, or impractical. In that case you?re more likely to be interested in this blog for the practical productivity articles that help you improve your ability to do what you?re already doing? as opposed to those that challenge you to consider whether what you?re doing even makes any sense to begin with. Nothing wrong with that ? these are just different paths.

The Quest for Accuracy

One of the great challenges in personal development and in human life overall is that we exist in a world where we don?t fully understand the rules. And yet we cannot simply call a time out and refer to the instruction book, at least not in a direct and obvious way.

When I was a teenager, I began to question the nature of reality instead of merely swallowing what I was taught, whether it came from a priest or a scientist.

What led me to start asking such questions in the first place? It was something very simple ? inaccuracy. I would occasionally notice that the world did not function in the manner I expected it to function. And as a consequence of that, I experienced a certain degree of suffering. When your beliefs are incongruent with reality, some form of suffering is the result.

It took me many years to realize that my sense of suffering, pain, or otherwise unpleasant sensations were NOT caused by reality itself. They were caused by my own lack of understanding of reality. Inaccuracy is the root of all suffering.

Following the path of jnana yoga is like playing detective, where everything you experience is a clue, a pointer to the underlying reality. My biggest breakthroughs have come about from noticing a piece of data that just didn?t seem to fit my current working model of reality. If you take the time to reflect upon your own experience of reality, you?ll probably find at least a few pieces that just don?t seem to fit. Have you ever experienced something that you just can?t explain? Does fitting that experience into your current model of reality feel like trying to shove a square peg into a round hole?

For example, consider the concept of objective reality, which suggests that we?re all physical beings in a physical universe, and our thoughts and consciousness are merely epiphenomena of the physical world. Can you think of a piece that just doesn?t seem to fit this model, something that sticks out a bit?

Think hard.

How about the fact that you?re you? You?re you and you alone, not me and not anyone else. Does anything seem odd about that?

You notice that you have a physical body, and by looking around you notice that there are a lot of other physical bodies walking around this world as well. You can even touch and interact with them. You?ve been taught that there are over six billion of these bodies walking around on earth. No problem there so far.

However, how many consciousnesses do you perceive? You can perceive lots and lots of moving, talking bodies in the world, but you?re only able to perceive one consciousness. By consciousness I mean awareness, and that awareness appears to have a localized connection to your particular body, but you aren?t able to perceive the connection between your consciousness and other people?s bodies, at least not to the same degree you perceive the connection to your own body. Doesn?t this seem a bit strange to you? Why on earth should your consciousness be localized?

You can be fairly sure that I have a body just like you ? you can at least perceive it through your senses. You can come find me and access my physical form. But can you access my consciousness? Do you actually have any reason whatsoever to believe that I?m conscious at all in the same way that you are? Your senses tell you that there are lots of people in the world with physical bodies similar to yours. But you don?t have that same perception of consciousness. In fact, I dare say the only consciousness you perceive is your own. As far as you can tell, you?re the only truly conscious being in the world, aren?t you? Why would you assume that any of those other bodies walking around in your world experience individualized consciousness as you do? Isn?t that a pretty big stretch, considering the available evidence?

Do you make this assumption when you?re dreaming? Do you assume that your dream characters have a separate consciousness different from your own? Why on earth would you make this assumption in your waking life then?

The raw experiential data you?re able to know with certainty is that you can perceive lots of other physical bodies walking around, but you only directly perceive that one of them is conscious and aware ? you.

Now why is that? Does the model of objective reality provide a clear explanation for this? Does it tell you why your awareness is connected to you and not me or anyone else? If objective reality is to be believed, then why should you have a localized consciousness at all? Wouldn?t it make more sense for there to be no consciousness or awareness at all in such a universe? Or at the very least, if there is consciousness in the world, wouldn?t it be more logical that it should be totally non-local, not identified with any particular physical body? These are some pretty significant holes in the objective reality paradigm.

The process of enquiry can create cracks in certain belief systems, and by shedding those cracked beliefs (no matter how attached to them you may be), you?ll gradually develop a deeper understanding of the true nature of reality. In order to understand reality, you must first shed your false and inaccurate beliefs about it. This process is even more basic than science because science assumes the existence of objective reality. However, the process of enquiry begins with what you?re able to know through direct experience and doesn?t require you to make such unprovable assumptions. Your own consciousness is fundamental to your experience of life, so you don?t need to be convinced of its existence ? this is why your consciousness is perhaps the best place to start when attempting to develop an accurate model of reality. Any model of reality you strive to create must, at a bare minimum, explain the existence of your consciousness and why you experience it the way you do, including its apparent localized connection to your physical body. Otherwise, you?re ignoring a very crucial piece of data.

The belief in objective reality requires a rather large leap of faith. It isn?t fundamental. It?s simply one of many theories, one that begins with an assumption and which contains some problematic holes.

Another flawed model of reality would be a purely subjective one, suggesting that all of reality is created by your own thoughts. Through trial and error, you may find that a subjective model of reality (with respect to your own mind) doesn?t appear to be accurate either.

As you search for the real truth, you may perceive that reality has both objective and subjective elements to it. Some parts appear to be influenced, even controlled, by your thoughts. Other parts appear to be independent of your thoughts. But the most fundamental thing you?re able to perceive is the existence of this one consciousness, one awareness silently noticing reality unfolding.

You?ll know you?re making progress with jnana yoga when your constant experience of reality becomes one of utter amazement and wonder. You should be amazed, perhaps even freaked out a bit, when you attempt to stretch your mind to understand reality as accurately as possible. What is reality? It?s not fully objective, not completely subjective. Not quite a thing, not quite a thought. How does it work? What?s under the hood? What is its nature?

While you might be willing to settle for living with your current model of reality, begin to notice where that model begins to break down. You will know when it breaks because you?ll experience some form of suffering. But suffering is not there to punish you. It is there to serve as a wake-up call, telling you that you have an inaccurate model of reality and that the way to end your suffering is to correct the errors in your mental model.

Debugging Your Beliefs

What happens when a computer program is created by a programmer who makes inaccurate assumptions? The program will contain errors ? aka bugs. It won?t function optimally, and it may even crash. Your own mental software works the same way. When your beliefs about reality are inaccurate, you will experience bugs. Occasionally you may crash. Just as a computer program runs on certain hardware, you must work within the confines of your own physical hardware. But if you are experiencing software (not hardware) crashes in your life ? such as depression, hopelessness, anger, frustration, apathy, guilt, resentment, shame, or fear ? it?s because your code contains bugs. It means you?ve made some inaccurate assumptions. Your ?code? consists of your beliefs about reality.

If you want to run more accurate code (and thereby experience less suffering and pain in your life), then you must develop an accurate understanding of the hardware, the operating system, and the environment in which your code will run. You need to prevent the introduction of coding errors, and whenever you notice errors (which appear as some form of suffering), you must debug them. This means you need to identify the belief that?s causing the suffering and then either delete or rewrite it.

Your mental software doesn?t have to provide every possible feature in order to run properly. It just needs to be free of bugs. Code that isn?t written is inherently bug-free. You cannot crash code that doesn?t exist. Similarly, you cannot experience suffering if your beliefs about reality are bug-free, meaning that they contain no inaccuracies. When your code is accurate (even if there isn?t very much of it), you will experience states of peace, wonder, and amazement as your normal daily existence. Your code will not only run smoothly, but it will also be elegant. One of the deepest pleasures in computer program is the creation of elegant code. Elegant code is both accurate and efficient in a way that transcends mere logic and begins to cross into the domain of art. It is as close to perfection as computer programs can get.

Similarly, when your beliefs about reality become elegant, you will find that the program of your life takes on an almost unfathomable smoothness. This is the manner in which jnana yoga makes it possible to transcend suffering and experience peace.

A World of Infinite Opportunities

Many people feel that there is a limited amount of abundance, wealth, or chances to succeed in life. Furthermore, there is a solid belief that if one person succeeds, another must fail.

This might be true, in some cases, such as in a small company or school, where opportunity is limited by management. However, the world is a big place, and there are opportunities created from ideas that help people, and no one gets hurt in the process.

Below are two examples of success that have not taken anything away from anyone:

Danny Thomas: With his promise, prayers, and vision, for St. Jude?s Hospital, he received the help of friends in the Arab-American community to build a fantastic charity. Some of us also believe he received divine help ? I know, I do.

There is much more to this story, but what did this hospital or charity take away from anyone? Aren?t the children who recover from cancer living proof that this idea, and prosperity, is for the pure benefit of mankind? There is no one who is hurt by this, and Marlo Thomas has picked up where her father left off.

Yoga teachers: Many unfulfilled members of the workforce have left their jobs to teach the benefits of Yoga to the masses. They teach their students to enjoy life, deal with stress, breathe properly, improve their posture, become aware of their bodies, and many more benefits.

Most Yoga teachers believe that all of the great Yoga jobs are in health clubs, ashrams, and Yoga studios. Not so, in my book ?How to Grow Your Own Successful Yoga Business,? I mention 16 ways to start up with little or no overhead.

Within the first chapter, there are Yoga teaching opportunities that currently exist with little, or no, competition. Yoga teachers who have taken this advice have become successful and prosperous.

Do these jobs take food away from anyone? When someone starts a business, do they take food away from another competitor? If you believe your competition is your problem, it will be. This is limited thinking, and you have to learn to think ?outside the box,? in order to be successful in life.

Don?t waste time on bad thoughts. You can easily co-exist in harmony with them, become friends, and learn from them. There is enough opportunity for everyone. This should be your mantra: Observe your competition, learn from their mistakes, and when possible, copy their success.

This is why you need to take a mandatory vacation and get fresh ideas. This is why you should take a notebook with you. I still prefer the ?old fashioned,? spiral bound notebook, with a pen in hand.

Everyone has a niche, make sure you cultivate yours, and develop your own identity, in life. Always remember, the sky is the limit, and you are only restrained by your own thoughts.

Detox Guide: Types of Detox Drinks for Effective Cleansing of our System

There are literally hundreds of detox drinks available on the internet and in health-food stores however the vast majority of them have a number of ingredients in common, many of which act as diuretics (to flush out toxins) and laxatives (to flush out toxins in a slightly different way!)

There are three major types of detox drink though and these are juices, water and herbal teas.

Juices

Pretty much any fruit and vegetable can be made into a detox juice drink with a juicing machine. In this way, your fruit and veg retain much higher quantities of vitamins and antioxidants which in turn benefit you. According to detox experts the best juices for detox purposes include celery, cucumber, carrot, apple, pineapple, lemon and ginger however any drink that you want to try can be tries ? experiment is the key.

You should try to buy organic produce fresh from a farm shop or somewhere similar so that you know it has only been picked in the last 24-48 hours. The longer a fruit or vegetable sits on a shelf the more of its vitamin content it losses and the less it will help your detox.

Water

Distilled water or mineral water is essential during a detox programme because it is the main flushing-out ingredient. One point though ? the water needs to low-aluminium because aluminium is a heavy metal and a toxin in its own right.

It is recommended that you try to drink at least 8 glasses of water a day however you should be careful not to go overboard as it is very easy to upset the body?s natural and very delicate water balance.

Herbal teas

There is a whole range of herbal teas suitable for detoxing however you must make sure that the one you choose is naturally caffeine free. Many people automatically think that green tea is a detox drink however normal green tea contains caffeine so be sure to find a caffeine free alternative.

Dandelion and Burdock tea is especially good for detoxing as is jasmine and lemon tea. Try a number of different varieties until you find a few you like. Some can be quite bitter however a touch of honey works wonders.

Detox drinks are as important to a detox regime as the diet itself so find a couple you like and stick to them. You can always try a few more next time you detox.

Yoga Helps You Lower Blood Pressure

Hypertension is a common disease nowadays, which, if it?s not treated corectly can cause many damages to the other organs of the body. People who suffer from high blood pressure need to lower blood pressure in order to neutralize the effects of hypertension on their body.

Changing their life style and sometimes taking medicines is recommended for the people who need to lower blood pressure.

It is very helpful in the treatment of hypertension the yoga lifestyle, which can really help you lower blood pressure. Yoga exercises, called asanas, involve stretching and moving the body into various positions. During these exercises any tightness or tension observed in the body should be consciously relaxed. Yoga practice offers stress management techniques, which are essential to lower blood pressure. There are many yoga asanas, maybe hundreds or even thousands, but only certain asanas can help you lower blood pressure.

The most efficient for lowering blood pressure are the forward bends, which have a pacifying effect on the brain, the nervous system, the blood circulation to the brain, and they also help you reduce the stress. All these lower blood pressure. Furthermore, these asanas slow down the pulse rate, so they lower blood pressure.

They are also helpful to lower blood pressure the sitting asanas, such as Upavista Konasana, which remove the tension from the ribs and the intercostals muscles, and also help you breathe easily. Many hypertensives have difficulties in breathing and these asanas help them in this matter and they also lower blood pressure.

How to Get Rid of Stomach and Bowel Problems

Many people suffer from unpleasant symptoms from their stomach, like: Constipation, diarrhoea, bloating, cramps, inflated stomach, acid eructation and pain related to such functional problems. This kind of symptoms most often originates from a colon made dysfunctional by bad lifestyle habits. Here are some simple lifestyle advices that may help you get rid of these symptoms.

- Eat food with high plant fibre content. Fibres from the food stimulate the movement of the intestines, and especially of the colon, and help you avoid a stuffed bowel. Whole, unrefined cereals, whole corn bread, vegetables and fruit will often give you the fibre you need. To get even more fibres, you can add some brand to your daily diet.

- Some herbs or spices can help your intestines to work more efficiently, for example peppermint, buckthorn bark, sienna, cayenne or ginger. However, too much of hot spices can irritate your intestines.

- Drink enough water. A too little water intake will make your stomach content hard and dry, and your intestines will then find difficulties moving the content along.

- One or two cups of coffee or tea each day can help your stomach work better, but very much coffee or tea will give you stomach problems.

- Eat enough, but not too much fat. The right amount of fat in your food will help giving your stomach content the right consistence. Most of the fat you consume should be a mix of fat from sources like olive oil, fish, rape, nuts, sunflowers and almonds.

- If you suffer from hard stool or constipation, taking for some days a couple tablespoons of linen seeds can help. Suspend the seeds in a glass of water and let it lie in the water some hours before stirring up the content of the glass and drinking it. You can blend a couple tablespoons of brand together with the linen seeds in a glass of water to get the effects of both these remedies at the same time.

- Do not eat too much, but neither too little, and eat at regular intervals. Four meals a day is usually optimal for most persons.

- Don’t eat in a hurry, and chew your food well before swallowing it.

- Get some physical exercise each day.

- Take some time each day to stress down. Meditation is a good method of achieving mental rest.

- Consume some products containing bacteria helping digestion. A healthy colon contains bacteria that help the end part of the digestion process. Yoghourt or other types of fermented milk will provide your colon with seeds for good bacteria. If you do not tolerate milk, or your colonic microbial content needs special attention, you can use products on the market that give a high supply of good bacteria seeds.

- If pure lifestyle measures are not enough to regulate your intestinal function, certain natural products you can find in the market may help. These products typically contain fibre and herbs that stimulate your intestinal functions, oily or mucous substances that lubricate your intestinal content, seeds for digestive friendly bacteria, or herbs that relax cramping.

- Stomach problems may also originate from hypersensitivity against food types, for example against milk or wheat, or from diseases that need treatment. If simple measures do not help after some days, the problem should be medically investigated. Some people suffer from hypersensitivity against the protein gluten in wheat and other cereals. To confirm or disprove this type of hypersensitivity, a medical investigation is needed.

Even though the listed measures should help you get rid of functional stomach problems in some days, the problems will return in some time if you do not change your eating and lifestyle habits permanently and begin exercising on a regular base.

Yoga Versus Pilates - Which Should I Do?

Many have heard of yoga and Pilates. But, not everyone realizes that there are several differences between these two types of exercising regimens. In fact, yoga is hardly classified as just an exercise program. Each of these methods are quite powerful tools to allow you to feel and look better. But, they are also very different. In order to help you to make a choice between yoga and Pilates, let?s explain them a little further.

Yoga - It came way earlier

Yoga has been around for over 5000 years. It is something much more than just a way of exercising. In fact, it is a lifestyle change that many people need to take seriously. This type of program is centered on the spiritual healing of the body as well as the physical aspects. It uses a wide combination of breathing and movements to get the body back into its targeted range. Yoga is something that encompasses the entire lifestyle in ethical, spiritual and physical form.

It is important to note that yoga is centered on meditation and that the poses that are done are done to allow for better concentration and better meditation abilities.

Pilates - It’s a whole different animal

Pilates, on the other hand, is a physical healing process that uses movements and breathing to work. In Pilates, the body is taken from one movement to the next in a fluid change. This allows for continuous improvement in the body in a normal way. Pilates uses Contrology in its dance form. In this, the poses that are done are more fluid and provide for a more natural movement from one to the next.

Both of these types of programs allow for individuals to improve in their health and well being through breathing techniques. Controlled, regulated breathing is very important to the success of yoga or Pilates.

Which Should I Choose?

In order to know which of these you should choose, the best way to know which the better choice is for you is to actually give them a try. Sign up for a couple of classes and give them a try each. Which methods and processes do you feel more comfortable with? Which works the best for your lifestyle? The choice between yoga and Pilates is something that you need to make on your own.

Biomechanical Wobble

Wobbly is not good for you. Wobbly is instability and inefficiency. Injuries will occur where you are most vulnerable to your wobble.

The arch is a space and regardless of how big or small that space you have within it pronation, excessive pronation (AKA-hypermobility), over-pronation, hyper-pronation and supination motions.

The more the arch space compresses/falls during pronation (whether you are high arched or flat footed), the more the rest of the foot up to the low back becomes bio-mechanically wobbly. This is natural bio-mechanical weakness that comes from over pronation and produces the wear and tear eventually seen as plantar fasciitis, Achilles tendonitis, knee, ITB, hip/low back pain, bunions, neuromas, hammertoes, Tarsal Tunnel, etc, etc.

These injuries are years in the making. How soon and where the injury comes to the surface depends on a variety of factors such as the twists and turns and angles of your bone development, weight, activities, and, of course your overpronation as it affects your bio-mechanics.

In order to minimize wobble, you have to minimize the motion of the arch. The more precisely you can reduce that motion without over-correcting, the better the alignment position of the foot and entire lower extremity to the ground.

This correction in efficiency will absolutely reduce and in many instances reverse problems completely. Even for people with irreversible chronic problems, a proper fitting orthotic can help greatly. Because at the very least, a proper fitting orthotic provides a health benefit, just like brushing teeth (i.e. prevention rather than cure) and more than likely pain will reduce (provided the problem(s) are biomechanical in nature.)

Stabilizing the body from being too wobbly should be the major goal of any functional orthotic. In addition:

Any functional orthotic must be easy and comfortable to wear:

* It must not cause anything else to hurt.
* It must not over correct the foot on the ground.
* It should support and balance each foot for the greatest mechanical efficiency.
* It should match the way your muscles work and not just the shape of the foot.

Anything that works like an orthotic doesn?t even have to look like a typical orthotic. Many of you may have found some relief with pads and simple remedies at one time or another. In fact, an old podiatry professor once said, you can shove toilet paper in there and it will work (he was over 90 years old and this was in 1967). Can you imagine–he was right. Anything that helps minimize some of the motion in that space makes some form of an alignment correction. However, the better the alignment position, the better the orthotics are working to overcome your individual bio-mechanical weakness.

Think of a machine that has been made more efficient. Tightening loose parts, less friction, less heat results in smoother operation. That?s the same in the human bio-mechanics–less rubbing of tissues with one another, less inflammation (heat) and smoother glide of tendons, ligaments and muscles, improves and balances joint function (in other words, bio-mechanical efficiency, resulting in improved performance).

So, can a person who starts wearing proper fitting orthotics early in life be safe from harm? No!! After all wear and tear is part of our aging process. And even a proper fitting orthotic does not necessarily arrest a problem in the making.

Then what does it all mean? The foot, working or playing in its best mechanically efficient position everyday means less pronation and harmful overpronation movement and less wobble, slowing down and minimizing wear and tear.

How to Cure Chronic Bad Breath

Adults and children alike suffer from chronic bad breath occasionally or regularly. Although common, chronic bad breath is not a laughing matter as it might signal a more serious medical problem that needs to be treated and solved.

So how can you treat or cure chronic bad breath?

To successfully cure chronic bad breath, it is first necessary for you to note and understand its underlying causes. Once you have identified what causes chronic bad breath to occur, it would then be easy for you to find a solution and treat it.

So to begin, note and understand that there are several possible causes of chronic bad breath. The list may include poor oral hygiene, periodontal infection or gum disease, intense buildup of odor-causing bacteria in the mouth, chronic sinus infection, candidiasis, unfavorable habits like smoking and drinking, poor digestion, liver and kidney disease, constipation, so on and so forth.

Given those underlying causes, it is now easy for you to agree that chronic bad breath is not something that should be ignored. So when you notice that something is wrong with your breath, start looking for a possible cure or treatment of chronic bad breath.

Well, there is one particular solution that is deemed effective to cure chronic bad breath ? the use of low concentrations of carbamide peroxide. This treatment is actually revealed by certain researches at the Academy of General Dentistry?s 53rd annual meeting which was held in Washington, D.C. just recently. According to some reports, the carbamide peroxide is an odorless ingredient that can not only be used to disinfect and bleach teeth, but can also cure chronic bad breath.

However, before you can apply the carbamide peroxide to cure chronic bad breath, you need first to consult a dentist who can customize trays or mouth guards that are made to fit tightly around your teeth. This is very much important as the solution is applied by placing it in the tray and into your mouth where it remains for an hour. Once the treatment is done, you maybe required to do the treatment by yourself at home. You can cure chronic bad breath at home for an hour everyday. Many of those who have tried this cure have claimed that after three treatments, you will notice a significant change in your breath.

There are also other solutions formulated to cure chronic bad breath. But, the truth still remains that to successfully cure chronic bad breath, you need to work closely with your dentist to find out other possible health concerns associated with chronic bad breath. This is also highly advisable to fully identify the most suitable plan for treating this condition. Chronic bad breath is no laughing matter, after all.

Spiritualism and Yoga

In all religions voluminous scriptures relating to spiritualism are available. However the divine truth is very simple and everybody has free access to it. Like free air and free water available to all, everybody can realise the truth freely and without anybody’s interference.

In the whole universe there are only two things - one is conscious and other is inert; one is truth and other is false. all living beings are conscious whereas matter and material things are inert. Matter always changes its state(solid, liquid, gaseous, plasma and ethereal space) and matter is nothing but a form of energy. Again the sum total of all energies(kinetic and gravitational of celestial bodies) is zero. So matter is ultimately false, both spiritually and scientifically. As in the dream, all objects appear to be real, so in the waking state, all things we see and hear appear to be real. When we wake up from dream, the dream objects appear to be false; so after death this visible world shall appear to be false.

Hence only the consciousness is truth and it is found in all living beings only. This consciousness not only guides us from birth till death, but has guided us in our numerous births through which we have been evolved. So consciousness is eternal, indestructible and uncontaminated. One’s consciousness is not isolated. The same consciousness pervades in all beings. It is Universal and this Universal Consciousness may be called God.

We should not search for God outside in the heaven. All living beings are the home of God(see my article ‘Home of God’). For this it is said that when we realise ourselves we realise God. Then what we should realise in ourselves? Body is not permanent. What is permanent and eternal in us is our consciousness. It is expressed in us as mind and intellect and the source of this consciousness is soul(Atman in Indian Philosophy). Subtler part of mind is intellect and subtler part of intellect is soul. In fact mind, intellect and soul are one and same. Since body is destructible, soul is the real being or true self of a being. When soul or true self is realised everything is realised. So the only way left for us is to follow our consciousness and become more and more conscious. It will lead us towards knowledge, liberation, immortality and divinity.

This spiritualism can be realised through the practice of Yoga. Yoga is defined as the cessation of thoughts arising in the mind. The moment one dispels all thoughts from the mind, one realises one’s true self or soul. One does not have to remain in this state always. After realising true self, again a Yogi returns to his normal state and resumes worldly activities.

Yoga gives emphasis on mind, because we are nothing but a conscious mind. With this powerful mind we have achieved so much in the 21st century. However the aim of spiritualism and Yoga is to initiate a voyage inwards through the mind. Outside there is pain, inside there is bliss; outside there is loss of energy, inside there is gain of energy; outside there is disease and mortality, inside there is health and immortality. If consciousness is an ocean, mind is the waves along the seashore. We see only the sea waves, not the oceanic bottom. To realise true self is like finding out oceanic bottom.

What we believe in ’self’ is our gross body and gross mind. However this is not the true self of a being. Gross body and gross mind constituting our external self is a manifestation of our true self or soul only. A lone body is the manifestation of a lone soul and this world is the manifestatio of all souls of all beings. God is nothing but the sum total of all souls. For this world is not different from being, being is not different from soul and soul is not different from God. All are one and the same. World is an appearance and manifestation of consciousness only.

So the task before a spiritual seeker or a Yogi is to become more and more conscious. When one becomes more conscious one becomes more free from worldly thoughts which give pain and sorrow, disease and death. When one becomes absolutely free, one becomes absolutely free from virtue and vice, pain and sorrow and disease and death. Birth and death comes under his control and one gets liberated right in the present birth. One achieves immortality. Indian scriptures, the Upanishads teach men to get immortal right in the present birth.

I see that my articles on Yoga are read well. But I am in total darkness if these articles are appreciated. So my earnest appeal to readers is that they should send their comments through emails. Those who accept my and my Master’s views on spiritualism and Yoga, should come forward and unite on a global platform. In order to help me both emotionally and financially readers may buy my book ‘Quest for truth: the spiritual and yogic way’ published in USA.

Author is a desciple of late Master Munishvar Shiv kumar Shastri who has established Muni Samaj. Those who wish to learn Yoga as interpreted by the author may email to him who resides in India.

What is Patanjali’s Ashtanga Yoga?- Part(I)

The Sanskrit word ‘Yoga’ has two meaning, because it is derived from two roots - one is ‘yujir yoge’ and other is ‘yuj samadhou’. The root ‘yujir yoge’ means to join or to unite. Religious leaders accept this meaning because their philosophy is based on dualism. They always try to project an external God and become Gog’s representitives. By this they rule over their followers.

However the other root ‘yuj samadhou’ means to concentrate. Patanjali tried to preach that Yoga where mind is concentrated in order to realise the true self(svarup). Mind is concentrated when thoughts arising in mind is controlled through yogic practice. Total concentration(samadhi) is that state where mind is free from all worldly thoughts and a seer rests in his true self.

Patanjali’s Yoga is called ‘Ashtanga Yoga’ for it is divided into eight parts or limbs. These are - Yama(abstention), Niyama(discipline), Asana(posture), Pranayama(breath control), Pratyahar(withdrawal), Dharana(to hold), Dhyana(meditation) and Samadhi(concentration)(II.29). Yama and Niyama are the external limbs which are to be observed in social life, while others are the internal limbs which are to be practiced in order to concentrate mind.

YAMA(abstention)

There are five kinds of Yama; these are - Ahimsa(nonviolence), Satya(truth), Asteya(not to steal), Brahmancharya(to think about Brahman) and Aparigraha(not to accept)(II.30).

Ahimsa - A Yogi should give up violence and cruelty against men and animals. When one gives up violence completely in thought as well as in action and remains firm in nonviolence, animosity disappears(II.35). Then one realises the unity of all.

Satya - While leading social life, one should be truthful. He who follows truthfulness none of his actions goes in vain(II.36).

Asteya - We should not steal or plunder other’s wealth. Then we learn how to lead a modest life within our income or we learn how to increase our income. For this by remaining firm on Asteya, a Yogi receives all kinds of wealth(II.37).

Brahmancharya - A Yogi who has given up violence, is truthful always and depends upon his own wealth feels greatness. He thinks about his true self or soul(atman) and its great potential. The Upanishads describe this Atman as Brahman, the ultimate reality and truth. The task of a Yogi is to bear this highest knowledge in mind and proceed further in the practice of Yoga. By bearing knowledge of Brahman firmly one achieves vigour(II.38). This vigour makes his body and mind powerful. Brahmanchrya is not abstention from sex as believed by most people. The great saints of ancient India were married and at the same time practiced Yoga and realised the ultimate truth.

Aparigraha - Aparigraha is not to accept donations, alms or bribe. When one observes Aparigraha one comes to know how to lead life in this birth(II.39). When one does not depend upon others for a livelihood, one learns how to work and earn. Those who depend upon the earnings of others fail to realise their own potential or the potential of true self.

NIYAMA(discipline)

Niyama includes - Shaucha(ablution), Shantosh(contentment), Tapa(to heat), Svadhyay(self-study) and Ishvara Pranidhan(to bear God)(II.32).

Shaucha - It is to keep the body clean. By practicing Shaucha, body is protected and is made free from foreign matter(II.40). We should take bath regularly so that foreign matter sticking to the body are washed away. Also we should keep our environment clean so that practice of Yoga becomes fruitful.

Santosh - It is to remain content and happy. A content man achieves best happiness(II.42).

Tapa - The meaning of Tapa is to heat or to rule. By practicing Tapa, impurities in the body are destroyed and the body and senses are brought under control(II.43). Yogic exercises help remove impurities deposited in various parts of the body. While Shaucha is external purification, Tapa is internal purification. Heat generated during yogic exercise causes sweating and impurities are removed through sweating. By this body becomes fresh, active, powerful, beautiful and diseasefree. One rules over such a body and its senses and proceeds further in realising true self.

Different Yoga Masters teach different yogic exercises(yogasana). My late Master Munishvar Shiv kumar Shastri has developed an unique exercise called Chakrabhedan(circle interception) which is very useful for keeping body and mind under control. This may be practised by people of all ages.

Svadhyay - It is the reading of the self. One is nothing but a mind. So one should read his mind carefully. Through self-study one may understand one’s own self. So how one may meet one’s beloved God through self-study. This is because God is not different from one’s true self.

Ishvara Pranidhan - In order to meet one’s beloved God one should make oneself worthy of it. One should bear God or Godliness qualities in oneself. This is Ishvara Pranidhan. Through Ishvara Pranidhan one achieves Samadhi(II.45). Samadhi is the state of total concentration of mind on true self. Through Ishvara Pranidhan one achieves Samadhi, means one attains total concentration of mind on true self and meets one’s beloved God.

Other limbs of Yoga shall be described in the next article.

Author is a desciple of Late Munishvar Shiv kumar Shastri who established Muni Samaj. The desire of Author is to spread true spiritualism and yoga worldwide. He has published a book ‘Quest for truth: the spiritual and yogic way’ recently.

Prevalence of High Blood Pressure

There is no evidence that average blood pressure in the whole of the general population has risen over the seventy or so years over which measurements are available. There is some indirect evidence that it may be lowered and may still be falling quite independently of medical treatment. Whatever the definition of high blood pressure used, the proportion of people with high blood pressure is directly related to average pressure throughout the population.

Standardized and accurate measurements of blood pressure for large representative populations have only been available since the 1950s in the United Kingdom, Scandinavia and the United States and more recently for other countries. There is some evidence from countries whose general diet has shifted from very high to much lower salt intakes - specifically Japan, Belgium and Portugal - that average blood pressure in the general population has fallen, probably for this reason. These reductions in salt intake reflect shifts in methods of food preservation from the traditional methods of salting, pickling and smoking to the modern methods of refrigeration and rapid transport of fresh food. As these changes have occurred in most economically developed countries, average blood pressure has probably fallen everywhere, compared with average levels in the 19th century.

Research in the USA has always shown higher average blood pressures in poorer people. Although research in this country in the 1950s and 1960s failed to show any systematic difference between social groups, this seemed to have changed by the 1980s, with higher average blood pressure in poorer populations throughout the UK. These differences in average blood pressures are not too large, but differences in other risk factors for heart disease show the same trend. Although there is some evidence that coronary heart disease became common after World War I and that it started among rich people, ever since the 1950s it has more and more become a disease for poorer people. This is partly because of the difference in smoking habits, but some of the changes to the pattern may now be caused by these variations in average blood pressure and perhaps by access to accurate diagnosis and effective treatment.

It should be noted that blood pressure also varies between races and different sorts of societies, but why it does is not an easy question to answer. A number of different factors have been considered. High blood pressure is a serious problem throughout black Africa and black people in North America have much higher blood pressure and stroke problems than Caucasians. However, the differences between black and white North Americans disappear if differences in income are taken into consideration. In the 1960s and 1970s, comparisons between British citizens of Afro-Caribbean and European descent showed no differences, but more recent studies have begun to show the same differences an in the USA.

These differences are evident in the social aspect, rather than racial and social differences in average blood pressure seem to depend mainly on income differences. When North American incomes were much more polarized than British incomes, social differences in the average blood pressure were much higher in the USA than in the UK, but there is evidence that as these societies converge, social differences in average blood pressure are becoming similar in the two countries.

Recent changes in the national health care system contract for general practitioners should have led to most people with high blood pressure being identified, although it is much more doubtful whether most of these are followed up with effective treatment. If all general practice teams developed cardiovascular follow-up clinics for high blood pressure on the same lines as the best have already done and all their patients were treated to the level of quality attained in large clinical trials, an additional 15% of fatal strokes would be prevented and probably 5% of coronary heart disease.

Yoga Clothes for Comfort, Functionality - and Let’s Not Leave Out Fun!

Yoga clothes should be comfortable and functional. They should allow you to move freely and not distract you from your practice. They should feel good against your skin so they don?t cause any irritation.

Ideally, the clothing should be absorbent so that it wicks sweat away from your body. There are few things that feel as uncomfortable as a sticky, clammy body that is moist from perspiration.

I also think they should be attractive and fun to wear. When I do yoga alone in my home, I am willing to wear an old tee shirt and sweats or baggy shorts. When I practice in a class, I am more discriminating in what I choose to wear.

I admit it. I work very hard to keep my body in shape, and when I am with others, I want to show off the efforts of my hard work. I usually choose form fitting pants and a fitted tee shirt. This allows me to see the outline of my body in the mirror so I can maintain good form, and it lets me move without having to fuss with my clothes. They are also flattering to my body, so when I wear them I feel good.

Here are some of the things that you should look for in yoga clothing so that they work well for you and make you feel good about yourself and your practice.

Yoga Pants
There are many types of yoga pants. Some are long and go down to your ankles; others stop just below your knees. Often they are relatively form fitting. These types of pants have the benefit of allowing your instructor to see your alignment so she can make any necessary adjustments to your form.

If you aren?t comfortable in pants that are so revealing, you might enjoy wearing loose, cotton trousers. They offer freedom of movement without being too tight.

Whatever pants you choose, make sure that you can bend and move freely in them. Also be sure that there are no bulky ties at the waist that might be uncomfortable when you are lying in a prone position.

Yoga Shorts
Yoga shorts are a very good choice if you practice Bikram or hot yoga, because the room is heated to such a high temperature. They are a good bet in the warm summer months when long pants might be too warm. They also help you more easily check the proper alignment of your lower body because you can see your knees and ankles.

The yoga shorts should be long enough to cover your derriere and they should not ride up. Form fitting shorts usually don?t move too much, so they may be just right for you.

Yoga Tops
Yoga tops should allow you to move freely without having them fall in your face. Tee shirts should be short enough so that your lower body is not hidden, so you can more easily check your alignment. Some women like to wear sports bras (especially those who practice Bikram yoga). If you choose to wear one, make sure that it holds you securely and that nothing falls out when you are bending or stretching. You don?t want to wear something that is going to cause you to worry about what you might be showing to the rest of the class.

Yoga tops come in many bright and attractive colors. You might also have fun wearing shirts with characters such as Yoga girl on them.

Yoga Shoes
Most people do not wear shoes during their practice. However, they might be useful if you practice outside in a park, on a beach, or some place where you would not want to take off your shoes and socks. Yoga shoes look very similar to other athletic footwear, except that the soles allow for considerable flexibility in your foot and the tops of the shoes are very lightweight. Some popular brands include Puma yoga shoes and Adidas shoes for yoga.

Jacket
Many people might not think that a jacket is an important part of yoga clothing, but I beg to disagree. I think it is absolutely critical to take a jacket with you to your yoga class. I have been in many classes where the temperature has been quite cool (some are downright freezing). While the temperature often doesn?t matter too much while I am moving during the poses, it becomes quite a different story when the time comes to meditate.

I don?t know about you, but I find it difficult if not impossible, to relax when I am cold. Bringing a jacket with you gives you an option of covering up during the relaxation period if you are feeling chilly. Feeling warm and comfortable allows you the pleasure of letting your body relax fully.

So yoga clothes should be functional, comfortable, and give you the freedom to totally enjoy your practice. Have fun with them and enjoy wearing the ones that make you feel good!

Treating Candida Naturally

Recent research has concluded that candia may have a more pronounced affect on health that previously thought. Candida is naturally occurring yeast that is present in every human being ? we all have it all the time! When candida grows excessively it is due to a bacterial infection. Normally, it is harmless and exists in relative balance with the rest of the body. However, if the levels increase out of range of natural harmony it can cause dozens of unwanted symptoms.

Fortunately, there are ways to treat candida naturally. The mindset to treating candida should be to return the body to its natural state of equilibrium. When treating candida naturally the idea is that no prescription medications, doctor visits, or medications are necessary to fix the problem.

Using a combination of supplements, changes to the diet, anti-fungal agents, and vitamins and minerals can be effective in the battle against candida. Furthermore, as more and more research has proven that natural remedies can be just as successful as synthetic ones, people are finally starting to realize that Mother Nature has graciously provided for the healing and treatment of a huge variety of health problems.

Using vitamins, nutrients, and supplements will enable the body to rid the body of excess yeast growth. Due to the hectic lives many of us lead, it is fairly difficult for people to properly balance their diets. It is tempting to drink coffee, eat junk food, and ignore the variety of vitamins and nutrients the body so desperately needs. Vitamins and nutrients that are effective in treating candida include vitamins A, C, E, selenium, zinc, iron, glutamine, and healthy fatty acids. These substances are more available than ever before. Not only do health food stores and pharmacies carry these products ? you can also find them at major supermarket chains.

In addition, you should try to consume as many antioxidants as possible. Antioxidants are important to the body for fighting disease. Antioxidants function by rendering toxins in the body harmless. Over the past few years the use of antioxidants has become more widespread. Foods are even being engineered to include heavier amounts of these beneficial substances. A great natural source of antioxidents is berries, particular blueberries.

Flaxseed oil is an excellent source of essential fatty acids. It is common for the treatment of candida. In essence, flaxseed oil is a natural antifungal agent. This means that flaxseed oil naturally does what prescription anti-fungal agents are supposed to do. Its properties are often highly successful in limiting candida growth and it should be part of any natural candida treatment.

As you can see it is possible to treat candida naturally. While these minerals, nutrients, and supplements can be a little pricey, the benefit to your health will greatly outweigh the financial cost. Even taking the monetary cost into consideration, Candida must be treated one way or another. It is always best to attempt to heal yourself the natural way over prescription drugs. This will enable your body to defeat problems the way nature intended it to.

Jane Symms has an interest in Candida. For further information on Candida please visit Candida or Candida Infection.

Winning Over High Blood Pressure

There is direct relation between alcohol and blood pressure. Not a happy relationship. You pay for the alcohol and buy blood pressure and again pay for treating the blood pressure! The double loss game!

This is just one strong reason. The disease of blood pressure is due to various other reasons. The crush of the materialistic modern civilization is too much to bear in the metropolitan cities. The modern modes of relaxation have capacity to create further tension! Take for example, one of the entertainment utility-Television!

If you view the News Channel, your mind is likely to get more agitated. Instead of peace of mind, you get piece of mind!

These problems are interrelated and it is difficult to segregate the cause and effect, once you are trapped. For example, too much of alcohol, is the cause of high blood pressure. It is also responsible for weight increase.

Weight increase in itself is the cause of blood pressure. If you take medication for weight loss, again it has the potentialities for side effects. To treat the side effects, your doctor will again give some more medicines. The vicious cycle goes on. You will soon reach a stage, where you suffer form all sorts of deficiencies and diseases.

Blood pressure is only the cover. It has a solid back-up. Many serious, life-threatening diseases are waiting in the side-wings to take over once you are a patient of high blood pressure. They are heart diseases, heart attack, kidney failure, nervous breakdown and many others.

Forget medications for a while. I am not telling you that they are of no use. But the strategy of the moment is to change your lifestyle. Change in your food habits. Think positively that you are capable of beating blood pressure. Just give up junk food for ever. That is one of the contributing factors for your constipation, which again is one of the reasons for increase in your blood pressure.

If you are taking more than 2 spoonfuls salt per day, it is time to cut it. Give up processed foods and switch over to fruits and vegetables. Limit the sweets. Have a regular schedule of exercises. Meditation, breathing exercises, cycling, jogging, brisk walking, all these count a lot in reducing your blood pressure.

Along with the changed habits, develop a habit of thinking positively. Your supreme will power can cure any type of blood pressure.
