Yoga is all in rage lately. Everyday, a number of people decide to engage in Yoga for the conveniences it brings, from the physical aspect down to the spiritual and mental health.
Various forms of Yoga correspond to different people of different walks of like, ages and lifestyles. Yoga is open to all who can accommodate it. And one can perform or do Yoga as often as he wishes without restriction. The effects and benefits are seen as time goes by and it is not surprising that many people are inclined to it.
Yoga includes equipments, clothes, accessories as well as facilities to initiate learning. So how are you going to get up and choose what you wear on Yoga activities?
Yoga clothes should always be inclined to giving the best comfort. Although there is no particular Yoga clothe or apparel that you are supposed to wear during or when performing Yoga, it is necessary that you are comfortable with what you wear.
However, there are some considerations when choosing your Yoga clothes.
First and foremost is comfort.
Since you are going to perform different positions or Yoga postures, you must wear clothing that will not restrict you from moving freely in any manner. Your clothes should offer ease of movement and must be attuned to letting your different body parts to twist and stretch in various ways and postures.
It is advisable to choose a clothing which is made from pure organic cotton because this will provide maximum comfort. With this kind of material, the body is allowed to breathe as it should be. In addition, the clothing you choose must be sweat absorbent so that you will not feel sticky and moist when you sweat during the activity.
Although there are far more attractive and appealing designs of yoga clothing that you can choose from, always keep in mind to consider the clothing that fits you right and that fits your body frame.
Next consideration is the expenses.

Hurricane Power Outages and Yoga
The leading cause of death for both men and women in United States according to American Heart Association is Coronary Heart Disease, which causes approximately 1.5 million heart attacks each year. Recently, research has shown that yoga and meditation have been known to reduce blood pressure, regulate heart rhythm, improve the elasticity of the arteries, lower pulse rate and increases the heart’s stroke volume. In short, practicing this ancient art of body/mind wellness is good for the heart.
The factor that contributes heavily to heart disease is stress. Situations which are highly stressful, increase the heart rate and blood pressure. The stress hormones get released during a stressful situation; extended or recurrent exposure of these hormones can injure the heart and the blood vessels. Yoga promotes a relaxed state of mind and body and is also widely known for playing a vital role in reduction of stress hormones, decreasing the heart rate and lowering blood pressure.
The way a person breathes strongly influences the heart rhythm through the inner connections in the central nervous system. Pranayama, which is the yogic name for breathing exercises, encourages taking slow, deep breaths and reciting yogic mantras verbally. Due to this method of taking slow, deep breaths the heart rate slows down and more oxygen enters the blood. This in turn induces a calm and well being throughout the mind and body. The chances of having a heart attacks and strokes gets greatly reduced because of this slow steady breath rhythm.
Heart Disease can be controlled and prevented by using specific types of Yogic Asanas (Postures). The Chest can be opened up to improve respiration and functioning of the heart by using the upper back- bending postures. The side bending yogic postures has been shown to help remove the physical and energetic blockages in the heart and chest. In order to promote the functioning of the heart, compression of the heart and lungs a good posture is required and spine lengthening yogic poses provides just that.
The preferred yogic asana for relaxation is called the Savasana (Corpse Pose). In order to perform this asana a person lies down quietly on a flat surface on his/her back with the arms by his/her side for 10 to 15 minutes. The concentration is placed on the flow of the breath. This practice promotes tranquility and rest, which is healing to the heart. This yogic posture has been known to reduce the blood pressure within a matter of weeks. Using inversions can increase the blood circulation.
Research has shown that a person performing yoga and meditation at least three times a week has been shown to reduce their blood pressure, pulse and their overall risk of heart disease. Meditation is well known for its ability to provide tranquility to the mind and decrease the level of stress. Meditation also reduces emotions like anxiety, hostility and depression, which are harmful to the heart. The practice of daily meditation has been shown in the studies to reduce the blood pressure and also the amount of fatty deposits in the arteries.
While Practicing yoga a person is automatically led to choose a healthier lifestyle, which involves reducing or avoiding alcohol, foods rich in cholesterol and fat, refined sugar and caffeine. While heart disease can be averted or controlled by above-mentioned yogic postures, if all of them are performed together a potent therapeutic synergy is created on the heart. It has been shown by the famous Dr. Dean Ornish’s heart-healthy lifestyle studies that not only can heart disease be prevented or controlled but also it can reversed through a healthier diet, meditation and yoga.

Yoga - One Size Doesn’t Need To Fit All
Although there are a lot of great reasons to try Yoga, most people won’t even take a shot at it. I think I know why. Stay with me for a couple of minutes and I’ll get there.
Years ago, I read one of the most truth filled statements I have ever encountered. Although I usually try to avoid generalities, I believe that most of them DO have a portion of truth to them. Unfortunately, many people either don’t realize that these statements are not ultimate truths or they assume that since there are times that these old adages and generalities are NOT true, not only are they false, but completely without merit.
Most generalities, as I have stated, DO contain some truth, enough truth that we can often at least glean guiding principles from them even if we cannot live our lives exactly by them.
Now, the statement I made mention of was, “The only job where you start at the top is digging a hole!”
I normally would not actually say that to someone who expected to get to the top of the heap by tomorrow, but the idea behind the statement would be understood by most of us. Those people who have made it to the top of their profession, art, or even their hobby, usually put in a lot of practice time and made a lot of mistakes on their way to achieving the level of skill or competence that they have reached.
Which brings me (finally, you say) to Yoga.
Yoga has the potential to be one of the best physical fitness programs that anybody can practice, but many people won’t even give it a chance.
Yoga requires no special clothing, not special skill, no special equipment. It doesn’t need a gym, because it can be practiced on the floor beside your bed, in the living room, or even in a large enough bathroom. Once you learn a few basic poses (asanas), you can do your yoga routine at home or on the road. You can even do some of your Yoga while riding in a car or bus. It doesn’t even require a personal trainer. You actually CAN learn Yoga from a book!
So what stops a lot of people from trying Yoga?
To tell the truth, I think they are intimidated.
Obviously, Yoga is not something we read about or hear about every day, so there is already a lot of misunderstanding and uncertainty about the practice anyway. On top of that, take a look at the pictures in any Yoga book and what do you see? Pencil-thin people twisting their bodies into impossible (to you and me…and I DO Yoga) positions. No way!
Let’s go back to the statement I mentioned. To get to the level where they are selected to pose for pictures for a book, they usually have had to practice for several years. When they started, some of them were as out-of-shape as you think you are now. You can bet they made a lot of mistakes along the way and some of them often thought of giving up because they weren’t able to perform the asanas the way their teachers did…or the way it was done in a picture in some book. Nobody is going to begin Yoga today and be able to do the positions that way right away.
Also, not everyone is going to be able to achieve the level of skill that they have achieved. Some of us just aren’t going to realize that potential for a long time and maybe never.
So why bother to learn Yoga?
After all, if you can’t do what the books and instructors say to do, then you have failed, right?
Wrong.
First of all, simply moving into your best imitation of the perfect position can begin to produce the health benefits associated with Yoga. Second, learning yoga breathing techniques and practicing this as you perform the movements and asanas (not to mention you daily activities) can also produce benefits in both your mental and physical health. Finally, continued practice of the asanas, breathing, and movements will, over time, move you closer to being able to do what the person in the picture was doing.
Remember, nobody said you had to be able to touch your toes, you just have to reach for them, breathe properly, and do it again tomorrow.
Yoga is actually simple and easy to learn, and can produce some startling affects in both mental and physical health.
Why not give it a try?

The Mystery of Enlightenment
Initially, enlightenment is living in the present moment and accepting your situation as it is. That is a pretty heavy task for anyone in any time. It is often said that an enlightened person cannot be angered by small talk or negative energy.
Many people are humble and believe that they will never be enlightened in this life. They also believe: The goal of enlightenment is too vast for the average person to achieve. However, should you just give up?
What can you do to attain enlightenment?
You should meditate daily: This will help you connect to the world around you. This is an awareness of plants, animals, people and many things around you that are often not appreciated or overlooked.
Meditation will enhance awareness of yourself, everything around you, and the connection between the two. This will bring out the ability to see reality as it is - with the ultimate goal of reaching a state of ?pure consciousness.?
Understand the value of prayer, mantras, and singing. Even if you only practice in your mind, this will strengthen positive energy within you. Many people resort to theses practices; to gain comfort in times of need. This is a shame because you can gain the positive benefits of prayer, mantras, and singing, any time.
Remember, enlightenment is not a race: You would be shocked at the number of people who put pressure on themselves to be ?instantly enlightened.?
It is good to have goals in life, so creating a log to track your progress is a beneficial practice. Your log may track your meditation sessions, your ability to deal with, or diffuse, negative situations, your ability to create positive energy and project it to others, and your ability to see reality.
If you continue the process of keeping and maintaining a log, your results will be encouraging. You may also want to join a group with compatible religious beliefs, search for a teacher, or share your practice with a friend on the same path.
Lastly, do not be frustrated by uncertainty and learn to accept what you cannot control. If all humans could maintain enlightenment, we would experience world peace. We could all accept each other, despite differences of culture, nationality, color, sex, religious beliefs, or any other thing humans can find to develop a pre-conceived notion about each other.
My first taste of Yoga was over 40 years ago, at the age of 7, in a martial arts school setting. I have continued to study martial arts until this day and I have four teaching certificates in four different martial arts. Now I teach both Martial Arts and Yoga.
I began to seriously practice Yoga (under Laura Foster) over twenty years ago due to martial arts competition related injuries.
Laura was a skilled & knowledgeable teacher of Restorative Hatha Yoga, Raja Yoga, and Laya Yoga. After training with her for 3 years, she certified me as a teacher in 1987.
I became certified as a Master Teacher (Guru) on September 15, 1995, after teaching over 5,000 hours under her wing. Shortly afterward, Laura retired at age 90.
Since that time, I started organizing Yoga Teacher Training camps. As time went on, we began getting requests from everywhere in the U.S. and Canada for a comprehensive Yoga Teacher Training correspondence course.

All you Need to Know about Herniorrhaphy, or Hernia Surgery
Many people, no matter what age or sex, suffer from one type or another of hernia. Hernia occurs when because of a muscle failure or weakness the tissue underneath the muscles protrudes through a hole that it makes, creating a bulge. The cause of hernia is generally the fact that in time muscular tissue is getting tired and worn, so they lose resistance and tear. If somebody suffering from hernia ignores it, and many do so because in the beginning the pain in the area where the bulge appears is not disturbing, the disease will grow and will start to be a real problem. The bulge created by the hernia may not hurt first but it does cause quite some pain after some time, especially if the person that has it coughs, bends, or lifts something heavy.
So in most hernia cases a simple surgery is needed and it will fix everything. If the doctor recommended you hernia surgery then it would not be wise to delay it because complications are likely to appear. The lump can fill with fat and trap the intestine inside it, causing severe digestive problems. (when hernia blocks or traps another organ it’s called strangulated hernia). If this happens surgery must be done immediately because severe hernia complications are life-threatening.
Fortunately, because millions need hernia surgery each year, the surgical tehniquies have greatly improved in the last few years, and new tehniquies are researched continuously. Before, the surgery was a more complicated process that caused pain sometimes and that required a lot of time dedicated to the recovery, but now hernia surgery does not hurt at all and the recovery time is much shorter.
Hernia surgery depends on the type of hernia that the patients have, methods slightly differ from situation to situation, but there are two major tehniques designed to remove hernia:
-laparoscopic herniorrhaphy - the doctor makes two very small incisions through which he inserts special surgical devices that he controls through a remote-control and that fix the problem. This method leaves almost no scars after everything heals
-open herniorrhaphy - the doctor makes one big incision, fixes the hernia with surgical instruments controlled by his hands not by a remote control and then sews the hole in the muscles through which the bulge came out. This method may leave some scars after the wound heals.
After the surgery a small recovery period follows, and patients are prescribed some medication and a special diet that they must hold on to for a few days until digestion starts to work as it normally should. After a few days patients can start walking, but running, exercising, or other sporting activities are forbidden for about five weeks.
Hernia surgery is an easy surgery that millions go through and that does not present any complications in 99% of the cases, so there’s nothing to worry about if you need to be operated for hernia, but you have a lot to worry about if you keep delaying the surgery until complications show up.
If you want to find great information on different hernia subjects check out this links. You can find great content regarding hernia surgery, inguinal hernia and many more at http://www.hernia-guide.com

Karmic Yoga and the Inner Work
It was said that the Dalai Lama meditates four hours a day. When one of his close associates were asked how he spend so much time meditating with his busy schedule he said that the Dalai Lama ?meditated for other people, rather then himself.? He also said that the meditation ?allowed him to do the work.? The way he was affected by his spiritual path gave him the patience and energy to work with others. The ripples that he sent out while working with others were more positive because of this, so his meditation and self care actually created a win, win situation for everyone involved.
As we speak of Karmic Yoga many people think of it as doing only the outer work Mistakenly they think that the outer work is enough. They think that concentrating on working on the outside will make the work that needs to be done on the inside happen automatically. To the contrary, the truth is that a unhealthy and unhealed inside will taint and dampen one?s abilities and effectiveness on the outside. But if one uses their energy on the inside, instead of on the outside, doing the inner work and cultivating character, clarity, and joy while doing the outer-work, eventually the outer work will take care of itself.
The outer work will flourish because of what is happening on the inside. One?s performance will be the fruit of a healthy, loving individual and will come from a core of being, rather than an act of performing. One of the main tasks of all yoga, especially Karmic, is to free oneself from attachment not only to things, but to Maya, or the way that we have been taught to believe things are.
The world of Maya is the world of illusion. It was a world put together piece by piece to help us understand our world. Maya gives us the illusion that we can predict what is going to happen in our lives. It gives us the illusion that we can control nature and control other people. It takes away our fear and gives us comfort, but Maya, in fact, is an illusion. It is a tool created in order to comfort us, as well as being a poor substitution for faith.
If we work on the inside through meditation, contemplation, and prayer, we break free from the illusion and enter into reality. We reconnect with and become one with the divine presence in the world?the creative power that we call god. We then use Maya as it was meant, as a tool, or a doorway to enter and exit as is necessary, to get things done in the physical world. This can only be done by being engaged in the inner work. The inner work is difficult. It means going inside and challenging all of our ideas about the world. It means letting go of our false identity and claiming our true one. This work is difficult when we have conditioned for so many years and when every book, movie, television show, newspaper, and even friends and relatives keep feeding us an identity that really isn?t ours. Letting go is like a death?the death before resurrection.
As you do the great work of Karmic Yoga, working to make the world a better place, remember that the inner work is always necessary. It is something that you must do to remain healthy, strong, and to stay in touch with reality. Not only the reality of the world, but the reality of your greater self. When this is done your work will come from the heart and you will fill the world with the joy of your spirit.

Yoga Beginner - Getting It Right
When it comes to promoting relaxation and reducing stress, nothing beats yoga. Unfortunately this isn’t the case for everyone. Most people who quit yoga think they fail because they are unable to get the positions and technique right. In fact, the reason they fail is that they put too much importance on getting the positions and technique right.
I do not profess to be a master of yoga. In fact, I am a beginner, with very little skill. However I have taught drumming for many years, and the pitfalls are similar. Here is my advice for yoga beginners.
Week 1 - Enjoy the activity:
Grab a beginner yoga video and set up your mat in a place that you can be comfortable and alone (there?s no room for self-consciousness in this step). Go through the exercises, but act as though you are a six year old having fun, rather than an adult worrying about technique. Try all of the positions, don?t worry if there are some you can?t perform right away, modify as necessary.
Week 2 - Examine the sensations:
By this time your body has probably memorized the routine (if you have been having fun and not obsessing about technique, your body will have learnt the movements quickly). Try to concentrate on your breathing. Be aware of how oxygen and energy are flowing to, from, and through the various body parts. Feel the release of tension and sensations in your muscles.
Week 3 and beyond - Observe the instructor
Most likely you have been improving your technique throughout, without even trying. You have probably figured out which yoga exercises are the easiest for you, and which are more difficult. Concentrate on the position you are most comfortable with. You are most likely so at ease with this position that you don?t even have to think about it anymore. The breathing and motions should be second nature by now, so you can begin to observe and emulate details in the instructor?s technique. Continue this step for each exercise.
Many people will try to learn yoga, and other activities, by only using the method I explained in week three. Many instructors are guilty of teaching this way. Unfortunately, beginners who start by obsessing about their technique may never enjoy what is described in week 1 or week 2.
